The "Beautiful Night" concert on May 1st 2004 marked the climax of the BBC's Music Live festival, with two D5 Live digital mixing consoles as part of Britannia Row's system for the event.
The Music Live Festival was an eleven-day event which took place throughout Northern Ireland from April 23rd to May 3rd. Presented by Patrick Kielty, Beautiful Night was an 18,000 capacity free concert in Belfast city centre. It was also broadcast on TV, radio and online throughout the UK, bringing the music of Ronan Keating, Gabrielle, Jamie Cullum, Zucchero and Brian Kennedy as well as Alanis Morissette, Bob Geldof, The Divine Comedy, Katie Melua, Kila and Moya Brennan alongside unique footage from Ash and Westlife, recorded from a special performance on the Laganside floating stage on 28th April as part of the BBC Music Live Festival.
Brit Row's Bryan Grant explains: "Knowing that it was a multi-band bill, and knowing that with a show like this the sound requirements of the artist can change right up to the event, we opted for the flexibility of the DiGiCo D5 Live. We had one desk on FOH and one on stage. Both desks performed well for us in an ever-changing situation. It was a difficult site because it was in Donegal Square facing down Donegal Street: T-shaped with lots of wonderfully reflective buildings at the top of the T. During set up the traffic had to flow normally. This meant that our windows for rehearsals, etc were quite limited - from 6pm onwards - so we needed consoles that were able to be fully recallable and that we were able to set up and patch really quickly. The D5s are perfect for this. And the audio from them is superb!"
