Ovation's tradition of offering annual Limited Edition Collectors' guitars began in 1982. Since then, over 30 models have become a part of this highly collectible series. At winter NAMM show 2008 Ovation announced that for the first time its crown jewel - the Adamas - will be added to the list of inductees as the 2008 Collectors' installment. In the early part of 2008, Ovation will commence production on 100 rare, and soon to be sought-after guitars in its New Hartford, Connecticut, (USA) factory. The 2008 Collectors' (model #2008-5) features some of the best design and technology that Ovation has offered in its 40-plus years in the acoustic/electric market. As is custom with all Adamas models, the soundboard is made from highly refined carbon fiber (graphite) and attached to the body by a suspended composite ring. Its Contour body is handmade from lightweight fiberglass cloth. Powering the electric side is Ovation's own VIP preamp with 5 built-in microphone images that accurately replicate and enhance the guitar's natural voice. Other noteworthy specs include a walnut neck, 1-3/4" nut width, slotted peghead and 18k gold filled fingerboard inlays and top trim. Only 100 pieces will be produced - each sequentially numbered. Following the introduction of the mid-priced Ultra 2071 in 2007, Ovation announced that for 2008 Ovation's Ultra family will be expanded to include Ovation's signature multi-soundhole design (model #2178). Ultra guitars are a global alliance between Ovation's factory in Korea and its USA-based factory in New Hartford, Connecticut. Subassemblies made at Ovation's offshore factory are shipped to New Hartford, where skilled craftsmen carry out the final assembly and setup process. The result is a professional instrument with the feel and playability of upscale USA-made Ovation guitars. Features such as Ovation's lightweight Contour body, solid AA grade spruce top, scalloped LX bracing, "soft V" neck profile and the OP Pro preamp make the new 2178 one of the best values in the mid-priced acoustic/electric market. Other noteworthy features include a 5-piece mahogany and maple neck with 2-way truss adjustment and Ovation's OP Pro preamp with Ovation High Output pickup. Available in Black, Vintage Amber and Black Cherry Burst finishes.
