Active VNet series with DSP and network control by Tannoy

Launched at PLASA 2005, London, Tannoy's VNET Series of installation speakers will be showcased at winter Namm show 2006, Anaheim, California. VNET is an active version of Tannoy's popular V Series range of installation loudspeakers incorporating a networkable embedded amplifier system providing a complete installation solution by combining high performance signal processing, amplification, networked control and telemetry.
By integrating its renowned Dual Concentric point source, constant directivity drive unit with leading edge digital signal processing (DSP), network control and class D amplifier technologies into these high definition sound reinforcement (HDSR) loudspeakers, Tannoy is providing a fully monitored active speaker system.
All VNET models are supplied with the active speaker system optimised, requiring only room equalisation to finalise the set up. Room EQ is simplified via user accessible signal processing based on the SHARC DSP that can be used in place of an upstream speaker management system. Using free network topology individual speakers can be linked together with Category 5 cable in a daisy chain, star layout, or a combination of both. Included software facilitates real-time control as well as diagnostics and monitoring of all vital system parameters such as amplifier temperature, driver status and input / output metering. The integrated system within each speaker negates the need for an amplifier-rack room to be incorporated within the venue.
Tannoy VNET's integrated Class D power amplification with switched mode power supply delivers 800Watts output per channel. Dependant on model, the only surface area needed for cooling is the small control panel on the rear of the cabinet. Even when driven at very high power levels, no fans are required so the system runs quietly and is not prone to internal dust contamination.
At the heart of all VNET models is the Tannoy Dual Concentric drive unit. By placing the high frequency drive unit physically inside the low frequency driver Tannoy engineers have created a true point source that exhibits constant directivity.
With four bi-amped full range models and three subwoofers in the VNET range there is ample depth in the line to satisfy a vast range of sound reinforcement applications including houses of worship, performing arts centres, theme parks, leisure venues, sports and multi-use stadiums.
